ELRA REQUIREMENTS
The spring program is an East Lyme High School varsity sport, running from March to June. Athletes compete in several races against public and private high school teams, concluding with the New England Rowing Championships in Worcester.
Varsity crew races on a 1,500-meter spring course. This is our most competitive program, both in terms of the number of the races and the determination of who competes in the first boat.
Spring practices are held every day after school from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Practices are also held from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays when no race is scheduled.
Participants must pay a fee of $275 to ELRA to participate in the spring program, with checks payable to the association. This fee helps cover the purchase and maintenance of boats for the program. Although varsity crew is not a CIAC sport, we follow CIAC rules. As such, this program is not open to middle schoolers or athletes from schools other than ELHS.
ELRA provides relief to rowers and families who have trouble affording a program’s fee. For more information, contact Scott Mahon at 860-949-5422 or scott.mahon@elpsk12.org.
A pre-season meeting is held in February. Training on the water can begin in March as soon as water conditions are amenable.
