Food & Drink for Spring Regattas

Typically, Spring Crew events take up an entire day and we take nutrition for the rowers VERY seriously. This area is the greatest difference between Spring and Fall Seasons. The rowers will consume food at least once, frequently twice, during a race day. Along with all that consumption, is a joint commitment by the ELRA (East Lyme Rowing Association) and YOU, the parents and caregivers to collectively provide the nutritional needs of each rower. Preparing and serving the food for “The Juggernaut”, our Food Trailer/Tent, is the “job” we take on if we have a rower. You will fit right in as a volunteer!

A Signup Genius will be sent out roughly 5-6 days prior to the regatta/event. Watch for this email. Pay attention. Many of you want to be heavily involved and will find places to serve during each race. Within that Signup, you will find slots to be filled with food and drinks as well as donations for work and time. Signing up for even one thing or area helps tremendously! We are always in great need of folks volunteering to work. If you have a talent you’d like to share such as “Grill Master”, “Organizing Expert” or “Watermelon Carving Artist”, please let us know! “The Juggernaut” is extraordinary to behold. Generally feeding between 60-80 or more of rowers, coaches, parents and siblings at each event, takes much effort, but is necessary! At remote venues, running out to grab a bite will be difficult and may cause you to miss the race! We strive for healthy fuel intake, by asking for donations and preparing healthy foods as the coaches recommend a well-balanced diet for the rowers.

Along with slots to be filled out, we will send along specific details regarding the regatta location. This could include knowledge of a parking fee, whether rain boots are recommended, tips on viewing the race, whether there will be merchandise (Swag) for sale in tents, and various other tidbits. Being a volunteer with “The Juggernaut” builds such wonderful comradery among the supporters, coaches and Crew Moms & Crew Dads of East Lyme Rowing.
